Meet The Family

About Me

Corgi breeder
Hi! I'm Chloé, the breeder behind Chloe's Colorful Corgis. I got my first Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Remy, in 2012 and absolutely fell in love with the breed. I spent my whole childhood knowing this was the only dog for me - I was so thrilled to be able to finally get the chance to own one! I wanted the opportunity to share the life changing love that only Corgis can bring to other's lives. Thus, as a family we began raising quality, healthy family dogs within a few years - giving me now over 10 years of experience and knowledge. I grew up wanting to practice animal husbandry, since I quickly outgrew my dream in height alone of being a Thoroughbred jockey. I have been riding horses since I was 6 years old. I used to compete in hunter/jumpers and dressage. I have loved animals my whole life. I don't think life is complete without them. My family comes first but Corgis are my passion, quickly followed by my love for my horse Journey and my cats Armani & Pronto. Unfortunately Journey, my heart horse, passed away on 8/12/22.

About Us

Corgi family
We are a family of 5! My husband is a huge help with our breeding program. I definitely couldn't do this without him! He supports me every day and encouraged me to chase this dream. He is my high school sweetheart and we have been married for 15 years! Our oldest is now a sophomore in high school. Our second child, our daughter, has started 8th grade this fall. Our newest addition, our second daughter and third child was born in July of 2021. I truly feel blessed being able to be a stay-at-home mom! It really helps having someone home all the time with the puppies to ensure they are all each getting lots of love and individual attention. Our Corgis love laying on the couch with us, going hiking, going on long walks, running errands, playing lots of fetch, swimming, getting pup cups from Starbucks, meeting with our friends who also have dogs at the park for playdates, and they enjoy playing with our children and their friends. They get a lot of Indiana sunshine and fresh country air. We love being outdoors! Your new puppy comes with a lifetime of breeder support. I am here for you and want to get to know you! It doesn't matter if it's day 1 or 10,000, you truly become a part of our Corgi family!

Our Breeding Practices

We do not believe in breeding our girls until they are a minimum of 18 months of age or until their 2nd or 3rd heat, as this can vary on each of our girls. I do not think they are emotionally mature enough until they reach that age. I don't like the idea of a puppy raising puppies! We also do not breed females after age 5. We monitor them closely after each litter and take into account the date last bred and the size of the litter. If we, along with our vet, decide it is best to skip a heat cycle we will do so. We want to always give them a proper recovery period. We prefer not breeding every heat and only breeding once a year. We want our girls to get a well-deserved break between litters! Becoming a parent can be challenging. If one of our girls does not take on the role of being a mother well, she will not be bred again and allowed to be retired.

We attend each and every birth to welcome each Corgi puppy into the world, and to help our moms if they need it. We really put our hearts and souls into our puppies! After pups are born, I like to sleep near our whelping room for the first few days. I check on them every 2 hours to make sure they are eating and gaining weight normally. I want to make sure they receive the best start in life that they can possibly get! Our momma's get double the dose of their Nuvet plus vitamins, Oxy Momma postnatal vitamin, and metoclopramide from our veterinarian's office as they highly recommend this for inducing milk let down and for ramping up milk production. I supplement their free choice puppy and performance food twice a day with my homemade dog food, goats' milk, white rice, egg yolks, Bill-Jac frozen dog food, and shredded chicken breasts. I frequently give them wild caught sardines, oysters, salmon, mackerel, a small amount of organic virgin unrefined coconut oil, and sometimes organic canned puppy food. I want our girls to be as healthy as they can possibly be!

Homemade Dog Food Recipe

Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef
1 1/2 cups rice
1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 1/2 cups chopped butternut squash
1 1/2 cups chopped carrots
1/2 cup peas, frozen or canned
I sometimes will add frozen spinach or kale along with broccoli, or green beans depending on what I have on hand. Feel free to change up the veggies as you like!
You can also change up the protein to chicken, turkey, or lamb as you see fit. I prefer using grass fed beef for this recipe because it's more nutritious than regular ground beef and still cheaper than buying pre-made frozen food.

Directions:
Stir in ground beef, rice, kidney beans, butternut squash, carrots, peas and 4 cups water into a 6-qt slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low heat for 5-6 hours or high heat for 2-3 hours, stirring as needed.
Let cool completely.

I scoop it into small freezer bags or you can use tupperware containers and freeze. I pull one out as needed!

What Our PUPPY PARENTS Are Saying

"My experience with Chloe was unbelievable and one I will never forget. There are so many breeders out there that don’t care even a quarter of as much as Chloe does with her dogs. Right off the bat when I found her, I could tell she was so passionate about what she does and really cares about not only the puppies but the parents as well. All of her dogs are so well mannered with dynamic personalities not to mention absolutely stunning. The first few weeks of life for a puppy is so critical to how they may act the rest of their lives and you really see the love she puts into these dogs when you take them home."
